Completing the Gauntlet of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3 is no easy feat, with each new trial featuring a mechanic you’ll have to overcome. Among these challenges, the Faith-Leap Trial stands out as one of the trickiest. This guide will walk you through every step necessary to conquer this trial and secure the coveted Umbral Gem.
As you venture into the dark chamber of the Faith-Leap Trial, be prepared for a unique experience. The chamber appears daunting at first, with an invisible path and platforms that will test your jumping skills. Understanding the mechanics of the trial is crucial for successfully navigating this treacherous space.
A key point to remember is the importance of saving your progress often. With deadly touchpoints scattered throughout the invisible path, a single misstep can lead to instant failure. By saving frequently, you can experiment with different strategies without the fear of losing your progress.
Upon entering the chamber, your first task is to sacrifice some blood at the altar. If you have Shadowheart in your party, consider letting her perform this act to gain extra favor with her. Notably, you won’t face any combat during this trial, so you can focus entirely on the jumping mechanics without worrying about your hit points.
In the entrance area, you will notice several gold lines on the floor. These indicate the safe zones where you can jump without falling to your doom. Your character with the best jumping distance should take the lead to help navigate the platforms effectively.
To begin the trial, separate your best jumper from the rest of your party. Head to the set of stairs on the right and run out onto the invisible path. Aim for the point halfway between your starting position and the platform in front of you, and then leap onto the platform.
Once on the first platform, your next move is crucial. Leap to the left to land safely between the two adjacent platforms. This step will set you up for your next jump, which should be a diagonal leap forward to the right, landing between the next two platforms.
After making it to the third platform, you’ll be able to jump to the central platform. From here, walk straight ahead until you are halfway toward the final platform. Finally, leap from this position onto the last platform to claim your Umbral Gem!
If you prefer to take a magical approach, there are options available to make this trial significantly easier. Spells like Fly can allow you to bypass the challenge almost entirely. Alternatively, Dimension Door can be used to teleport directly across the room, while Misty Step can help reduce the risk of missteps.
It’s essential to note that you may not always have access to these spells, so be prepared to tackle the trial using your jumping skills if necessary. With the right strategy and a little bit of luck, you can successfully complete the Faith-Leap Trial.
The Gauntlet of Shar consists of several trials, including:
Each trial grants you an Umbral Gem upon completion, and you’ll need a total of four gems to progress further. The fourth gem can be acquired after defeating Yurgir, a devil tied to Raphael’s past. Completing the Silent Library puzzle later will also yield the Spear of Night.
To access the Gauntlet of Shar, navigate to the Thorm Mausoleum located in the Shadow-Cursed Lands during Act 2. Start your journey from the Masons Guild, travel west, and then head northwest to the Reithwin Town Waypoint.
Once you reach the waypoint, you will find Arabella nearby. After a cutscene, enter the Thorm Mausoleum, proceed north, turn left, and follow the path up the stairs to reach your destination.
Inside the Mausoleum, solve the painting puzzle to unlock a secret doorway, then select the Traversal Gem to be lowered into the Gauntlet of Shar. With careful navigation and strategic play, you can complete the Faith-Leap Trial and enjoy the rewards it brings.
